Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 1.5 million people in the U.S. sustain a traumatic brain injury every year—an estimated 230,000 needing to be hospitalized.

TBI involves a disruption of normal brain functioning caused by injury from an external force. Depending on the severity, it can result in physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral symptoms Outcomes can range from complete recovery to long-term disability or death.

Treatment for traumatic brain injury at VCAT Treatment Center starts with a psychological and brain mapping assessment to pinpoint the affected areas. This is followed by targeted, non-invasive, and systematic patterns of neuro-stimulation to reduce symptoms and increase brain functioning.

Substance and Alcohol Addiction

Addiction is a complex brain disorder. Prolonged alcohol and drug use can alter the brain’s signaling, circuits, and chemistry. This dysregulation of brain activity is a key reason why it’s so hard to stop drug use—and a contributing factor to the high relapse rates.

Substance and alcohol addiction impairs your self-control, decision-making, and judgment. Victims usually feel stuck in a vicious cycle where they’re unable to resist the cravings. And even when they do, they suffer from painful withdrawal symptoms.

If your use of drugs and/or alcohol adversely affects your health and interferes with your relationships and day-to-day life, our VCAT Treatment Plan for addiction can help.

Unlike other addiction programs that rely on guesswork or self-diagnosis, we use quantitative clinical testing to evaluate how addiction has affected your brain. Armed with this information, we design a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan that provides a stable path to long-lasting sobriety.

Our “neuro-brain-based” approach addresses the regulation of dopamine in the Mid-Brain and Frontal lobes to increase cognition, improve impulse control, and reduce craving. This promotes long-term recovery and helps your brain return to normal functioning while alleviating the risk of relapse.

Dual Diagnosis

People with a mental health issue and a substance use disorder are said to have a dual diagnosis (also referred to as comorbidity or co-occurring disorders). The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports that of the 20.3 million Americans with a substance use disorder, 7.7 million (37.9%) also have a mental disorder.

The co-occurring conditions feed into each other in a vicious cycle. Those with a mental disorder are more likely to abuse substances as a form of self-medication. And those with drug addiction are at increased risk of developing mental health issues.

Therefore, those with a dual diagnosis must seek help for both the mental illness and substance use disorder. Unfortunately, only 9.1% of people with co-occurring conditions receive both substance use treatment and mental health care.

The compassionate team at VCAT Treatment Center is committed to providing integrated brain-based care that targets both substance use disorders and mental health issues. Our dual diagnosis treatment program separately evaluates each disorder, and our experts design comprehensive, customized treatment plans for long-lasting recovery and better quality of life.

Mood Disorders

Are you (or someone you know) suffering from mood disorders like depression, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder? You’re not alone. Mood disorders are relatively common. Around 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience some type of mood disorder at one time in their lives.

Mood disorders can severely impact your productivity, relationships, perceptions of life, and feeling of self-worth. They rob you of your sense of purpose, pleasure, and quality of life. But you don’t have to live that way. Help is available!

At VCAT Treatment Center, we base our treatment plan on current research that shows mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder may be due to chemical imbalances in the brain. We use traditional psychotherapy, neurocognitive therapy, and affective neuroscience to stimulate neural networks and restore chemical imbalances.

The VCAT Treatment Plan for mood disorders teaches the brain to self-regulate its activity—helping patients cope with everyday situations better.

PTSD

Are you having trouble coping or moving past traumatic experiences like a serious injury, assault, torture, an accident, abuse, war/conflict, or the death of a loved one? If so, you might have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

At VCAT Treatment Center, we use cutting-edge methodologies and tools like brain imaging and VCAT-neurostimulator therapy to help individuals with PTSD cope and move past the trauma. We balance brain waves and stimulate specific brain regions to help restore healthy functioning.

Our brain-based treatment helps regulate serotonin and dopamine, which are dysregulated by the increased cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Research suggests that the greater the imbalances between the two neurotransmitters, the more serious the symptoms of PTSD.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a widely misunderstood and stigmatized mental health illness. The condition affects a person’s ability to communicate and express themselves. It is marked by intense paranoid behavior, delusions, hallucinations, and erratic behavior.

Brain imaging technologies and neuropsychological tests show differences in the brain structure and chemistry of people with schizophrenia—especially in the hippocampus, frontal, and temporal lobes.

Our treatment plan for schizophrenia uses a combination of psychotherapy and VCAT Neurotherapy. We target the frontal and temporal lobes to promote brain plasticity (the capacity of the brain to grow and reorganize its structure) and the regulation of disarrayed neural networks.

SCHIZOPHRENIA

ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopment disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention that interferes with everyday functioning.

Research suggests that ADHD is associated with underlying neurophysiological dysfunctions involving the brain’s electro-chemical imbalance (dopamine) and brain waves discrepancy (Beta and Alpha) in the frontal lobes and central cortex.

Our brain-based ADHD treatment methodology addresses symptoms such as overactivity and impulsivity by boosting your brain’s electro-chemical functioning and regulating your brain wave activity.

We use brain mapping and VCAT (our breakthrough non-invasive neuropathway therapy) to target neural networks in the frontal cortex as well as brain waves associated with hyperactivity (Alpha), focused attention (Beta), and disorganized thinking (Theta). We may also use nutritional and behavioral therapy.

The outcome of our ADHD treatment plan is improved concentration, memory, and focused attention—with less time spent in relatively disorganized mental states.

Foggy Brain

If you’re feeling forgetful, overwhelmed by mundane tasks, easily distracted, or sluggish, you may be experiencing a phenomenon known as brain fog. As the name implies, your mind feels cloudy, and your mental clarity is impaired.

Most people’s minds feel foggy at one time in their lives. But when these symptoms persist, you should seek medical care as the condition can significantly interfere with your work and everyday activities.

Our treatment approach for a foggy brain involves the stimulation of the brain to increase oxygenated cerebral blood flow and promote brain plasticity—improving cognition, mental focus, memory, attention, concentration, and perception.

Sleep Disorders

Troubling getting a good night’s rest? Insomnia or other sleep problems can adversely affect your productivity and feeling of wellness.

How well you sleep is an indication of your underlying brain function. When you have a sleep disorder, it may be due to imbalances of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) and hormones.

VCAT Treatment Center uses cutting-edge technologies to train the brain for self-regulation and healthier functioning. We help regulate brain waves—bringing you to a more relaxed and less aroused state. Your treatment plan may also include psychotherapy and herbal treatment.

Cognitive Functioning

Cognitive functioning impacts your ability to reason, acquire knowledge, recall information, solve problems, and make decisions. However, chronic drug or alcohol use can disrupt the frontal cortex and impair your brain’s functioning—leading to mental health issues like anxiety, depression, aggression, and more.

Our VCAT neuroscience and research-based neuropathway therapy stimulate brain cells in a systematic approach to build stronger neural network connections, enhance brain wave activity, and improve brain functioning.

Eating Disorders

There’s a unique link between the mental and physical manifestations of eating disorders. Studies have found that the onset, persistence, and recurrence of unhealthy eating habits, such as anorexia and bulimia, are connected to anomalies in the serotonergic pathways of the brain.

Decreased serotonin activity may contribute to bulimic behavior (binge eating followed by attempts to purge). On the other hand, increased serotonin activity may be responsible for anorexic behavior (constantly monitoring weight and restricting calorie intake).

At VCAT Treatment Center, our treatment plan for eating disorders aims to regulate serotonin and dopamine by helping balance brain waves through the stimulation of the Frontal lobe, the Parietal lobe, and the Mid-Brain. We may also incorporate nutritional therapy and psychotherapy to restore healthy eating behavior and cognition.

Epilepsy & Seizures

Epilepsy is a brain disorder linked to abnormal signaling between neurons in the brain. Neurons in someone experiencing a seizure typically fire much faster than usual. This disturbance in the pattern of neuronal activity may lead to muscle spasms, strange behavior and sensations, convulsions, and loss of consciousness.

If you have an epilepsy diagnosis or you’re experiencing seizures, we can help stabilize the neural disruptions and brain dysfunctions responsible for the condition. Our treatment plan is designed to increase brain plasticity, regulate brain waves, and normalize the firing rates of neurons.
